For the past three years, Purpose and its partners across the EU have been fighting to make social media safer for children. They've been campaigning for new laws to hold big tech companies accountable for the spread of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) online.

As an associate creative director, I helped bring these campaigns to life, co-creating eye-catching films and powerful messaging that has amplified the voices of campaigning organisations across Europe.

Our work has focused on several key campaigns, all united under the hashtag #ChildSafetyOn. These campaigns have used a variety of tactics, including petitions and direct outreach to EU policymakers.

Darkness Follows

In 2021, 85 million pieces of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) were reported online and the problem is growing.
This ad was designed to highlight that very darkest side of the internet and shows how it follows the people it touches throughout their lives.

Day Of Action

On September 19th 2023, a day of action was held to demonstrate support for the proposed legislation on child safety. The creative idea of harnessing the voices of affected communities of children and survivors to speak directly to politicians voting on the bill in Brussels was harnessed.

The internet clean up crew - armed with billboards in branded #ChildSafetyOn hazmat suits convened outside EU parliament to make their ask known.

500,000 Signatures

Our goal was to reach 500,000 signatures before the end of 2023 to prove the want for new legislation to pass at the European Parliament, and thanks to activities ranging from a twitter storm, to a day of action in Brussels, we managed to achieve our goal.
